While the world is at war, one man fights his own battle on the home front.
Winner of the Lew Grade Audience Award at the BAFTA Television Awards in 2003 and one of the most popular British mystery series still in production, Foyle's War debuted on television in the U.K. on iTV on October 27, 2002. Written by Anthony Horowitz, the setting for Foyle's War and the attention to historical accuracy makes this series a very unusual police procedural. The series begins in 1940, when Britain was fighting for its life in World War II. Detective Chief Superintendent Christopher Foyle (Michael Kitchen) is a dedicated cop at the Home Front in Hastings, England who introduces himself with the line, "My name's Foyle; I'm a police officer." Many of his cases involve profiteering, the black market, and murder. Foyle often finds himself at odds with high ranking British officials and intelligence agents who prefer secrecy over justice. With series 6, the show saw the end of the war and will pick up its next season – set to air on PBS' Masterpiece Mystery! in the summer of 2010 – with the rebuilding after the war.
