MysteryNet Reader Reviews - Parnell Hall's With This Puzzle, I Thee Kill
Parnell Hall has done it again. With his fifth installment of the Puzzle Lady mysteries, Hall continues to tickle the intellectual funny-bone of armchair sleuths and wordgame fans alike. The witty banter between Cora and Sherry will leave readers in stitches as the dynamic duo tries to figure out who in the world is trying to sabotage Cora's extravagant wedding. Cryptic word clues left along the way lead the crime-solvers on an unforgettable trail that ends with clever twists that are uniquely Hall's. If you enjoy a light-hearted caper and brainy clues, join Cora and Sherry as they bicker and brainstorm their way through another puzzling crime in With This Puzzle, I Thee Kill.
This book was very enjoyable to read. It's quick pace and witty conversations between the main characters make you want more. Cora's a woman who knows what she wants, when she wants it and how to get it. She doesn't care what others think of her and she lives for the moment and enjoys it. Sherry is a little more reserved. She had a bad experience in her life so she's careful of the things and people around her. The puzzles in the story play a large role in the mystery. They didn't detract from the story and it kept you wondering who the real culprit was. When it all comes together in the end, you get that "Aha!" moment and see how Cora's mind works in a way that others do not. After reading this book I look forward to reading other Parnell Hall books, previous and future.
I have read "With Thee I Kill" and found the characters easy to imagine, the story moved at a good pace. As you read, you suspect everyone, and no one is "innocent". And you realize that a sleepy little town can really come to life when gossip flies. I would definitely recommend this book for a person looking for an easy read, and fun mind puzzler.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It was an easy read for those few moments that I had available. This is an author I had never heard of, but I will look for again.
I started reading this book having never read a book by Parnell Hall. The chapters seemed to fly by. The characters are well written and from the beginning I was rooting for some while hoping others would go to jail or just go away. There are a lot of clues and red herrings that make solving the mystery tricky. The puzzles within the story were solved in a way that shows you how to do them, but gave the answers slow enough that you could try to solve them on your own. I enjoyed reading this book. It was a quick, fun book to read.
