Farley Granger, Cathy O’Donnell, and Howard de Silva
When a wrongly-sentenced young man (Granger) escapes from prison with a couple of hardened pals, he is swept along with his girlfriend (O’Donnell) on their crime spree with predictable results. This is the prototypical couple-on-the-run film, and it was scripted from Edward Anderson’s celebrated Depression-era novel Thieves Like Us.
This was Nicholas Ray’s first film. The movie was also remade in 1974 by Robert Altman under the title Thieves Like Us.
