Martin Scorsese and Nicholas Pileggi
Robert De Niro, Ray Liotta, Joe Pesci, Lorraine Bracco, and Paul Servino
This movies is a graphically violent depiction of the life of a young man (Liotta) who grows up in Brooklyn dreaming of becoming a member of the mob. Although the violence is at times extreme, the film does a fine job showing both the attraction and grim truth of mob life. Based on Pileggi’s novel Wiseguy.
Joe Pesci won an Academy Award for his performance and the film also received nominations for Lorraine Bracco, Best Screenplay and Best Picture. Martin Scorsese’s real-life mother plays Joe Pesci’s mother in the film.
