Overview:
High style is the hallmark of this intelligently written mystery about a circle of suspicious Manhattan society folks who knew the dead Laura. Webb is delicious as the acid-tongued newspaper columnist. Detective Andrews falls in love with Laura, although he’s never met her. David Raksin’s theme music is haunting.
Webb lost his bid for a best supporting actor Oscar. Joseph LaShelle won his for the movie’s stunning black and white cinematography. Based on the novel by Vera Caspary.
