Joan Crawford, Ann Blyth, Zachary Scott, Jack Carson, and Eve Arden
Mother knows best in this melodramatic tale of Pierce (played to the hilt by Crawford), a woman determined to succeed at food service and desperate to provide her snotty daughter (Blyth) with the things she never had. Arden is, as usual, good as the wise-cracking friend. The men are heels and murder rears its ugly head.
Crawford left her long-time MGM home for Warner Brothers and got her best actress Oscar. Based on James M. Cain’s novel.
