Overview:
20th-Century Fox went off the lot to film this crime melodrama in New York City. Mature is a thug who avoids jail by ratting on Widmark and his low-life gang members. Revenge then becomes the battle cry leading to a wild climax. Widmark is especially memorable as a giggling nutcase who shoves an elderly, wheelchair-bound woman down the stairs.
Widmark nominated for supporting actor Oscar.
