Overview:
Gritty tale of police corruption in 1950s L.A. and the blackmail scam Spacey and DeVito, who is a gossip columnist for a local tabloid, are running to entrap the rich and famous. The movie provides a vivid look at the underside of tinsel town with the attendant drugs, booze, sexual kinkiness, and sleaze that was so carefully developed in James Ellroy's novel from which the film was adapted.
Kim Basinger won an Oscar for Best Actress as did Helgeland for Best Screenplay.
