The Big Sleep Movie

The Big Sleep

1946

Director:
Howard Hawks

Screenplay:
William Faulkner, Jules Furthman, and Leigh Brackett.

Cast:
Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall, Elisha Cook, Jr. and Martha Vickers

Overview:
Detective Philip Marlowe (Bogart) becomes entangled with two rich sisters (Bacall and Vickers) in this densely plotted film version of Raymond Chandler's first novel. Great performances all around; dynamite dialogue. Bogart and Bacall sizzle.
The story became so convoluted that when Chandler was asked who committed one of the murders, he couldn't answer the question.
