Denzel Washington, Tom Sizemore, Jennifer Beals, and Maury Chaykin
Easy Rawlins (Washington) is reluctantly drawn into an investigation of a number of deaths in which, because he’s a black man, he becomes implicated. This is an under-rated film which successfully captures the flavor of the black community in post-war L.A. The film is an adaptation of the first of Walter Mosley’s ground-breaking, best-selling African-American detective novels featuring Rawlins.
This film was the first movie to portray the African-American as detective, although Denzel Washington had created a similar role as an investigative reporter in The Pelican Brief.
